The DWN AI Index™ Update

Things continued to chug along, with the index rising marginally by 1.25% to close at 2,693.36 (a net change as of 3/21/24).

3/22/24 DWN/AI Index Individual Stock Closing Prices:

SoundHound (SOUN) was down 15%, and Super Micro Computer (SMCI) was up 8.4%.


Under the AI Hood

Microsoft

New AI-powered devices emerged, with Microsoft introducing the Surface Laptop 6 and Surface Pro 10.

Also, the PCs are copilot-enabled and with a focus on business users.

BNY Mellon/Nvidia

Banking behemoth BNY Mellon revealed the installation of the AI-focused NVIDIA DGX SuperPOD alongside DGX H100 systems.

The NVIDIA DGX SuperPOD is a multipurpose supercomputer built especially for AI tasks, enabling flexibility and efficiency on the go.


Industry Dive

Apple/Baidu

Things got pretty interesting with a Wall Street Journal report indicating talks with Apple and Baidu, the Chinese internet giant.

The discussions (apparently) focused on (the deployment of) Baidu's GenAI's Large Language Models (LLMs) on Apple's devices in China.

In related news, Apple is Reportedly exploring a partnership with Google for Gemini-powered iPhone features.

Nvidia

Nvidia surprised audiences during its (keynote at the) GPU Technology Conference (GTC). The company announced NIM, a software platform to streamline AI model deployment into production environments.

Capitol Hill

A new bipartisan bill introduced in Congress will make marking AI-generated content compulsory.

Also, the new legislation will require developers to add data marking such content with social media platforms informing users.

The United Nations

Member States of the United Nations took the AI journey further with a nonbinding resolution that calls for safe AI uses. The United States led the effort to promote ethical AI uses while creating a regulatory framework for governance.

Tennessee

On March 22, 2024, Governor Bill Lee signed legislation that protects artists from intrusive AI.

The "Ensuring Likeness Voice and Image Security (ELVIS) Act" prevents (the) unauthorized misuse of artists' voices, likenesses, and other unique traits by AI tools.


Everything Else

The University of Southern Florida (USF)

USF revealed plans to create a college that covers cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and computing. Also, the proposed multi-focused college will be the first institution in the Sunshine State to offer an AI-focused degree.


Following the Money

Microsoft/InflectionAI

Microsoft took a big bet on consumer AI with the acquisition of InflectionAI. The $650 million deal also comes with a shift of InfelctionAI's talents to the Microsoft consumer AI division.

Additionally, the software giant will host the InflectionAI ecosystem on Azure.
